How can we design for experiences,
behavior change, and activity in the outdoor
areas surrounding Romsås to increase the
wellbeing of the residents?

Bluppi Reiser is a service that utilizes
transmedia storytelling to inform and engage
with children and their guardians to entice
activity in the local outdoor environment
through play. The concept spreads across
pedagogic books, a game app and web page
in addition to markings of paths with Bluppi’s
footprints. It blurs the line between the real
world and imagination. Tempting consumers
to move around and discover new areas in
their local outdoor environment.

The service is narrated through the alien Bluppi who crash lands in your neighbourhood. Bluppi needs your help to learn about this foreign planet and this specific area. The backstory is breif and easy to understand in order to spark and keep the childrens interest and imagination. It also allowes the narration to expand in several directions depending on the community's needs such as cultural differences, littering or local events.
The books can be used as tools to nudge preschoolers to go to specific areas to learn in and about the outdoors. In addition the books can function as conversation tools between children their guardians and the kindergarden pedagouges. By eliciting common discussion topics represented by Bluppi the service might bring people closer together across cultures and interests. Moreover it opens a new channel for self creation, by presenting information about activities and facilities in the local enviorment.
The game app gives more information about activities and their whereabouts in the local environment. It encourages exploration and play, together with friends and family and has been designed to potentially reach a higher age group compared to the book series.
In the app the players get introduced to their own alien known as a snuretutt, with familiarity and affiliation to Bluppi through the color palette, antenna and spotts. The avatar can be personalized to give the player affiliation towards the game. Through the avatar the player can gather points by doing outdoor activities and spending time outside as well as playing minigames together with friends.
In both the books and app one can see Bluppi’s orange footprints. The footprints in the app will guide you home if you are lost, and in the books they mark pathways and easy hikes in the neighbourhood on an accompanying map. In our physical world we can find the same footprints guiding people along paths to facilities in the immediate environment
By not stating what the innhabitants should do, and rather show what can be done the residents themself can consider, and choose what to do together with Bluppi from a knowledgeable point of view.
